What better time to laser-focus on healthy vision than Healthy Vision Month? The theme this year is Eye on Health Equality. We’re focusing on increasing diversity among eye health professionals and spreading the word about simple steps everyone can take to protect their eyesight.
Here’s how you can be a part of Healthy Vision Month:
Spread the word on social media.
One of the easiest ways to make more people aware of Healthy Vision Month and the causes it promotes is to share it on your social media platforms. Whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or any other platform, let your followers know. And the National Eye Institute makes it easy with their downloadable graphics and pre-templated messages, which you can find here.
Share ambassadors’ stories.
The NEI spoke with eye care professionals about the ways increasing diversity and representation can improve health equity and help more people experience positive eye health outcomes. These Healthy Vision Month Ambassadors deserve to have their stories shared — social platforms are a great place for these stories to go, too.
Promote NEI’s healthy vision resources.
It never hurts to brush up on your own knowledge of eye health. Then, you can share it with others when you need to. Check out NEI’s library of eye health resources and share them with your followers, friends, and family. The more people that are aware of this information, the better.
Find organizations dedicated to promoting healthy eyes and health equity.
The NEI partners with a number of organizations to promote eye health and equity in the world of eye care. The American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Optometric Association, and the National Medical Association are just a few examples. Find the full list here.
